I would like only the top sides to be rounded and the bottom flat. How can this be done?

Nothing comes to mind. you can use the “rectangle select” tool to draw a round-corner rectangle first, then “add” a flat-sided rectangle to the selection by holding down shift and using the same tool. However, this isn’t the most efficient and intuitive way to do it.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Hello there. I’m creating a rounded rectangle in gimp with your instructions but once it’s done and a new rounded image opens up I can’t use bucket fill to fill the rounded center. The bucket fill keeps filling the outside corners. I’m trying to fill the inside. I’m sure it’s just something quick. Sorry for the trouble.

Hi Sharon. I’m not sure what the problem is. Are you sure that the selection is what you want it to be? Try using the bucket fill before rounding the boarders to check your selection. You might want to make sure that the rectangle select tool is in “Replace the current selection” mode (first one to the left).

Sorry I can’t be more helpful than this.
